A SKIN TOO FEW: THE DAYS OF NICK DRAKE (dir. Jeroen Berkvens, 2000):
I wanted to like this more than I actually did. I suppose it parts from the norms of the biography-documentary by not telling you any more about its subject than you already knew. I'm sure for a hardcore Nick Drake fan this is eye opening, but it didn't do it for me. The best moments were the shots of places where Nick had spent time: his room, the countryside, his school library, etc. I suppose because there isn't a lot of source material (Nick was lonely, depressed, made music), Berkvens thought that showing where Drake had been (accompanied by Drake's music) would give us some insight. It did prove one thing though: Drake's music works really well with the moving image, and it's pretty kickass on its own too.
Final Grade: C+
